Breaking news. We have just been round to Mrs Roberts for tea and scones, she is our next door neighbour. Joan is a lovely elderly lady who's husband was the local vet, he sadly passed away 6 years ago. We got talking about farming life and it turns out that they were friends with one J Herriot and his wife (she pushed him into writing those books!). She started to tell us stories of farmers in Bentham and cutting up the wife's jumpers to keep a pig from freezing to death. It also transpires that this house, No 3 was actually the practise surgery, which may explain some of the odd looking bones in the garden soil...Cant wait to see her again, not least for the home made scones and ginger cake.
Off to Lancaster in a while to the Stepping Stones benefit at the University. Stopping at my sister Sally's for  dinner first. We have to drive through Bentham to get there, wonder if we will see any strangely dressed pigs?
